Rumors have been swirling that Ice Cube's son, O'Shea Jackson, Jr., has been cast to play his father in the upcoming film Straight Outta Compton, a biopic of the legendary hip-hop group NWA. While on the red carpet at the premiere of 22 Jump Street, the 44-year-old rapper and actor confirmed the reports.
"He was born to play the role," Ice Cub told ET's Rocsi Diaz, smiling. "He was born to play that part."
Ice Cube, who was part of NWA in the late 1980s and on into the early 90s, is also serving as a producer on the film, raising the question of whether his son even needed to audition.
"We don't give out no freebies," Cube said. "He had to earn it. He went the whole mile. He did everything we asked him to do… I'm so proud."
Not set to hit theaters until 2015, Straight Outta Compton details the life of legendary rap artist and producer Eazy E and the rise of the super-group NWA which launched the careers of Ice Cube and Dr. Dre. In the meantime, Cube stars in 22 Jump Street, hitting theaters Friday, June 13.
