Bradley Cooper Explains 40 Pound Weight Gain

ET is with Bradley Cooper where he reveals his strict diet and workout regime to prepare for his role in American Sniper.

There's a little more Bradley Cooper to love these days and that's alright with us. ET caught up with the actor on the red carpet of the Guardians of the Galaxy premiere in Hollywood and he talked about his burly new physique.

"It was pretty brutal," he tells ET's Rob Marciano about his diet and workout regime. I gained about 40 pounds. I'm about 20 down from that now."

Cooper packed on the pounds for his role as Navy SEAL Chris Kyle in his next film American Sniper, directed by Clint Eastwood. The Oscar nominee fully immersed himself in to the real-life character and says he wanted to do an honorable job in Chris's memory.

"I ate 5,000 calories a day and doing whatever I could to pay homage to [Kyle]," he adds.

This beefed up Bradley is a far cry from his role as a CGI raccoon in his latest film Guardians of the Galaxy. The Marvel film hits theaters August 1.
