Tom Hardy Gets Apocalyptic In This Amazing New 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Poster

All you need for a good post-apocalyptic film is an amazing setting, a tough-as-nails hero, a souped-up car and a shotgun. From the looks of it, the upcoming installment in the Mad Max franchise has all this and more!

Inception
star Tom Hardy is taking over the role of Max Rockatansky – previously played by Mel Gibson in the first three cult classics – and Hardy is teaming up with Charlize Theron who stars as Imperator Furiosa, who apparently has a robotic-hand, according to previously-released stills.

If you're not familiar with the Mad Max series, they take place in the Australian Outback after the world and civilization have crumbled due to several wars over resources and gasoline. Australian director George Miller made the first Mad Max in 1979 for $400,000.

It's 1981 sequel, Mad Max: The Road Warrior, solidified the typical look and feel of a post-apocalyptic film in the public consciousness, and was made with a solid $4.5 million.

Finally, in 1985, Miller brought us Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. At $12 million, it was the most expensive in the series thus far, and brought in a decent profit, but failed to be the money-making machine most were hoping for.

This upcoming sequel remained in development for over two decades, and finally, after a long march through development hell, Miller has finally gotten the budget to create the epic sci-fi action thriller he's always wanted (it's rumored to be between $100 and $125 million.)

Mad Max: Fury Road
is scheduled to be released May 15, 2015. Will this be the best one yet?
