Bradley Cooper showed a side of himself we've never seen (or heard rather) before in lending his voice to Guardians of the Galaxy, so when Rob Marciano caught up with him at the premiere he had to ask, What's up with the voice?

In the movie, Cooper plays a rambunctious, genetically engineered raccoon named Rocket.

"We were trying to come up with something kind of Joe Pesci," said Cooper, who didn't hold anything back in his performance.

Outlaws unite for the common good in the plot of the Marvel Comics adaptation, which finds space adventurer Peter Quill (Pratt) the object of a bounty hunt after stealing an orb coveted by a treacherous villain, but when Quill discovers the power it holds, he must find a way to rally the quartet of ragtag rivals hot on his trail to save the universe. Zoe Saldana, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Benicio Del Toro and the voice of Vin Diesel round out the colorful cast of characters.

Guardians of the Galaxy opens August 1. Watch the video to hear how the other stars got into character.
