Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Spiderman, and Batman are among the many male superheroes that have been dominating the box office recently.

But it makes us wonder: isn't it time for a female superhero to take the lead?!

According to Deadline, Sony has hired Burn Notice scribe Lisa Joy in to help develop a female superhero story in the Spider-Man universe. The official character (rumored to be Spider-Woman, Silver Sable, or Black Cat) has not yet been named and Sony is reportedly eyeing a 2017 release date.

While we are hopeful that we can see a female superhero from Sony relatively soon, when Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige spoke with Comic Book Resources on August 1, it seemed the idea was still a long shot on their end.

“I hope we do it sooner rather than later,” Feige said. “But we find ourselves in the very strange position of managing more franchises than most people have … But it does mean you have to put one franchise on hold for three or four years in order to introduce a new one? I don’t know. Those are the kinds of chess matches we’re playing right now.”

So, just to give everyone an inkling of what fans would want, we've compiled a list of the six female superhero’s we would love to see on the big screen.

Wonder Woman: She’s the only woman who can hold her own with Batman and Superman… which means she would most likely also be able to hold her own at the box office. Not to mention that outfit is already worn by women nearly every Halloween, so this would at least show us what she’s really supposed to look like.

Black Widow: This beauty hasn’t actually had her own movie yet, but she’s already been in three Marvel Studio movies including Avengers, Iron Man, and Captain America. Not to mention her back story is one of the most complex of the Avengers.  Also, we already know Scarlett Johansson can kill it in the Black Widow costume.

Captain Marvel, formerly Ms. Marvel: She’s fierce, female, and we could totally see Taylor Schilling playing her. Enough said.

She-Hulk: She would pretty much be the ultimate dream character. The Hulk was a standout character in The Avengers, so come on, let’s put the lady version on the big screen.

Catwoman: Technically, Catwoman has already had a solo movie... but come on, it doesn't count. Even Halle Berry herself said, “I want to thank Warner Bros. for casting me in this piece-of-**** god-awful movie,” while picking up her Razzie for Best Actress in Catwoman in 2005. Granted we have seen both Anne Hathaway and Michelle Pfeiffer play the role, they were both supporting characters. The big screen version would show just how fierce the character can be.

Dazzler:
It’s a long shot, but comic book fans love her. The film would have to be set in the 70’s and would most likely bring bell-bottom jeans, Farrah Fawcett hair, and the word ‘groovy’ back in a big way. Plus … roller skates and sparkles.
