Amy Adams plays a childlike and naive pregnant girl who is amazed by her sister-in-law's seemingly glamorous life. This was really Adams' breakthrough performance and the first film to snag her an Oscar nomination.


6. The Fighter

Mark Wahlberg stars as the eponymous fighter, Micky Ward, whose career is almost managed into the ground by his drug addicted brother. Adams plays a bartender named Charlene who starts a romantic relationship with Micky. This film scored Adams another Oscar nomination.

In this film, based on real-life events, Leonardo DiCaprio stars as the naturally gifted conman Frank Abagnale Jr. who goes around pretending to be various professions and conning his way into different social circles. On his tail is diligent FBI agent Carl Hanratty, played by Tom Hanks. During the course of his years of running from authorities, Frank falls in love with a Southern debutante and hospital candy striper named Brenda, played by Adams. He tries to leave his conman life behind him, but must flee when Hanratty gets too close. Adam's role in Catch Me If You Can is a smaller one, but she managed to blow it out of the water and it was one of her first roles to really elevate her profile.
