Get ready to root for the bad guy?
After months of rumors, Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, confirmed via Twitter Wednesday that he will play Black Adam -- the villain in the upcoming superhero film adaptation of Shazam.
Black Adam is the arch-nemesis of Shazam -- also known as Captain Marvel, a man (Billy Baston) who develops the powers of six mythological gods when he speaks the magic word "Shazam."
The 42-year-old Hercules star has previously hinted at his huge new DC Comics role, telling The Associated Press in August that one of his favorite comic characters was Black Adam -- a former slave turned defender of Middle Eastern nation Khandaq.
"I am putting my heart and soul and my bones into this role," he said.
According to Variety, no production date has been set for the highly anticipated film, but Darren Lemke (Lost, Jack the Giant Slayer) is set to write the script.
No word yet if Johnson will make an appearance in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is set to hit theaters in March 2016.
And though Johnson always appears to be in superhero shape, check out how he got into Hercules shape in the video below.
