When it comes to death-defying stunts, even Tom Cruise can have an off day.

While filming Mission: Impossible 5 in London, the 52-year-old narrowly escaped being hit by a red double decker bus. Watch the video above to see Cruise step out in to traffic in Piccadilly Circus, straight in to the bus' path. After some swerving from the (clearly agitated) bus driver, Cruise jumped back to the safety of the sidewalk. Crisis averted!

Tom, didn't your mother teach you to look both ways before crossing the street?

If that doesn't look like a movie set to you – you're not wrong. Apparently the film's crew was capturing the scene from cameras on rooftops and in building windows. But was this stunt all part of the plotline? Doesn't look like it – but we'll find out when the film hits theaters in December 2015.

Mission: Impossible 5 has yet to secure a snappy title like 2011's Ghost Protocol, but the film does co-star Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin and Rebecca Ferguson. It also features this crazy Ethan Hunt stunt, which has Tom strapped to the side of a plane 5,000 feet in the air.
