"I went there, they offered me a beer, and they did…whatever they were into," Dornan said in the interview. "I saw a dominant with one of his two submissives."
Fifty Shades of Grey follows the intense sexual affair between a sexually repressed college grad Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) and business mogul Christian Grey (Dornan), who awakens Anastasia's deeply hidden desires through the liberal application of sadomasochism and bondage.
It makes sense then that a visit to a sex club would be a good way to get into character.
"It was an interesting evening," Dornan admitted. "Then going back to my wife and newborn baby afterwards... I had a long shower before touching either of them."
Dornan, best known for his work on ABC's fantasy series Once Upon a Time and his disturbing role on the BBC crime drama The Fall, was a controversial casting choice for the role of Christian Grey.
Sons Of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam was originally tapped to play the sexually experienced CEO, but negative fan reaction may have been a factor in the actor backing out of the Universal film, only to have Dornan later replace him. Fans have since been more supportive of Dornan after the release of the Fifty Shades of Grey trailers.
