You've never seen Meryl Streep like this before.
In the new trailer for Ricki and the Flash, the three-time Oscar winner is stuck in the '80s as she plays a washed-up musician who gave up everything for a chance at rock-and-roll stardom, including her family.
And boy can Streep sing! The actress is quite good at portraying a lead singer, and it doesn't hurt that rocker Rick Springfield plays her band mate and love interest, Greg.
Ricki returns home after her daughter Julie -- played by Streep's real-life daughter Mamie Gummer -- is heartbroken after her husband leaves her for another woman. Ricki sees this as an opportunity to win back her family.
Streep was in good hands in this film. Oscar winner Kevin Kline plays her ex-husband and five-time Tony winner Audra McDonald plays his new wife. Oscar winner Jonathan Demme (Rachel Getting Married) directed the dramedy while Academy Award-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (Juno) penned the script.
Ricki and the Flash hits theaters Aug. 7, 2015.
Before she was one of the most acclaimed actresses in the world, Streep was told she wasn't pretty enough for the entertainment business. See the other actresses who share a similar story:
