The announcement was made on Monday by Greg Silverman, Warner Bros. Pictures' President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production.

"Eddie Redmayne has emerged as one of today’s most extraordinarily talented and acclaimed actors," Silverman said. "We are thrilled to welcome him into
J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World, where we know he will deliver a remarkable performance."

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them marks Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling's first foray into screenwriting. Meanwhile David Yates, director of the last four installments in the eight-part Harry Potter film series, will helm this project as well.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which originally appeared as a text referred to in the original Harry Potter series, was then turned into an actual book by Rowling in 2001.

In the context of the Potter Universe, it is a textbook cataloging the magical creatures of the wizarding world. The film will reportedly follow fictional author Scamander on his travels as he discovers the beasts and chronicles his adventures, and is set 70 years before the events of the first Harry Potter film.
