Colin Farrell Joins Harry Potter Spinoff 'Fantastic Beasts'

Farrell will play a wizard!

Colin Farrell is taking on a magical role!

The True Detective star is joining the cast of the Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, according to The Hollywood Reporter

Farrell will reportedly take on the part of Graves, a wizard who writer Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) encounters in New York. 


Fantastic Beasts
is about the adventures of Scamander in New York's secret community of witches and wizards, 70 years before Harry Potter reads his book in school.

But don't expect Harry Potter's Daniel Radcliffe to make an appearance in this spinoff.

"I still get people saying, 'Are there going to be any more movies?' And now I can say, 'There are actually are,'" Radcliffe told ET. "But I'm not going to be in them."

Radcliffe says some of his fans pity him after hearing he won't be appearing in the movie. "They're like, 'Oh sorry,' and I'm like, 'They're set in the past. Don't worry about it!'" he said.


Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
hits theaters on No. 18, 2016.
