Super Troopers 2 just added some star power to its hilarious cast lineup with former Parks and Recreation star Rob Lowe.
The 52-year-old actor, who must still be licking his wounds from his vicious Comedy Central Roast last week, has signed on play a former hockey player-turned small town Canadian mayor named Guy Le Franc.
Broken Lizard, the comedy group who created the beloved original film in 2001, began shooting the long-awaited sequel in Boston last week. The filmmakers raised $4.5 million in funding for Super Troopers 2 with a wildly successful Indiegogo campaign last year, far surpassing their initial $2 million goal.
The original cast of Broken Lizard members -- including Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske -- are all returning to reprise their roles as bumbling cop roles, and wrote the project together. Chandrasekhar is once again set to direct.
There's no word yet on a possible release date for Super Troopers 2.
Despite Lowe's recent sitcoms, Grinder and You, Me & the Apocalypse, getting the axe before their time, the talented comic has bounced back in solid fashion, nabbing a role on the CBS medical drama Code Black, as well as a starring role in comedian Ken Marino's feature directorial debut, How to Be a Latin Lover.
Lowe will also be appearing in the very-literally-titled film Monster Trucks, which is about a monster that lives inside the engine compartment of a truck.
