Glover sat down with Ellen DeGeneres on Wednesday, where he opened up about getting cast as the iconic Cloud City administrator, a character he's idolized since childhood.
"It’s really crazy. I'm very honored. It's a very big deal," Glover said. "[Lando] was the very first [Star Wars] toy I ever had."
While the fan reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, Glover revealed that a lot of the pressure surrounding the role is coming from his own mother -- who is a huge fan of Billie Dee Williams, the actor who first played Lando in the original trilogy.
"I told my dad [about getting cast] immediately, and my mom was in the background going, 'Don't mess it up!'" he shared.
The untitled Star Wars
project, which follows the adventures of a young Han Solo (to be played by Alden Ehrenreich
), will be helmed by The Lego Movie
's Phil Lord and Chris Miller and is set to hit theaters in 2018. Check out the video to hear more about Glover's casting.
