'Star Wars: Episode VIII' Gets Official Title -- 'The Last Jedi' to Premiere Dec 15, 2017

Episode VIII has a name!

The highly anticipated Star Wars followup to The Force Awakens got its official title and release date on Monday, announced via the franchise's website.

"We have the greatest fans in this or any other galaxy," the announcement read. "In appreciation of the fans, we wanted them to be the first to know the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga: STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI."

Helmed by Looper director Rian Johnson, and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, the latest Star Wars vehicle flies into theaters just in time for the holidays on Dec. 15, 2017.

Meanwhile, the upcoming movie will carry on the legacy of Star Wars icon Carrie Fisher, who finished shooting scenes for the film before her death last month.
