Rihanna plays a shapeshifting alien entity named Bubble in Luc Besson's sci-fi epic Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, and the singer-turned-actress is giving fans a sneak peek at her role in the long-awaited space opera.

The 29-year-old Barbadian superstar

"Luc reached out to my manager and I, and I saw how much he cared about this project. Everybody who loves film is a fan of Luc Besson's work," Rihanna shared in the short teaser. "He's created this incredible world… I'm so blessed to be having this experience."

For his part, the celebrated French director -- best known for his work on The Fifth Element and Leon: The Professional -- had nothing but praise for the "Work" singer, sharing, "She was super sweet and obviously not scared of [being in front of] the camera."

From what fans have seen from the many epic trailers for Valerian, Bubble is an alien burlesque dancer who can change her physical appearance at will, while her real form is an amorphous blue blob. And, as we see in this preview, it was Rihanna herself who performed in a motion capture suit to bring life to her character even when she's not in human form.
