NOW TRENDING: Breakout Star Nicki Minaj's New Music Video

September 27, 2010

Young Money Entertainment's Nicki Minaj let us get a sneak peek of her new music video with Will.i.am called "Check it Out." Nicki dished on the real message the rapper/singer hopes to communicate through her new album.

"It's not hip-hop, it's not pop, it's not high fashion, it's just doing whatever you feel comfortable with doing and not being afraid to express yourself," Nicki said, in reference to the point she is making in her music.

The lyricist told us that lyrics aren't the only thing about her art that she labors over. She also wants to concentrate on the music itself to make her songs more accessible to the rest of the globe. "I wanted to bring New York to the world," says Nicki.

Men traditionally dominate the rap industry, so we asked Minaj if she ever feels intimidated in this testosterone filled genre of music. "I was early on rapping with Lil Wayne," Nicki said. "So I feel like that was my boot camp."

"She loves art and she cares about the attire," said Will.i.am, who revealed to us his excitement for their collaboration. "There's not a lot of people like that. You name the very few and the ones that did that became iconic."

Nicki's new album Pink Friday is out November 23.
