Did you know that Katy Perry is a natural blonde who grew up singing Christian music? ET has your sneak peek at the Katy Perry special focusing on the singer's early years.
"We always called her Katy Bird because she has always been the singer," says her sister Angela Hudson. "I remember at times when we were younger, and her singing herself to sleep, but it would also put me and [brother] David to sleep, as well."
Katy's first album, which was Christian music and released when she was just 15, was the eponymous Katy Hudson [she later changed her surname to Perry, her mother's maiden name, to avoid confusion with actress Kate Hudson]. It only sold 200 copies.
Katy was still a teenager when she moved to Los Angeles from Santa Barbara, CA to pursue her dream of having a music career under the wing of successful producer, Glen Ballard.
"It was definitely a challenge for my parents to let their 17-year-old daughter move to big Los Angeles. But they were supportive ‘cause they knew that that’s where she needed to be for this career," explains David.
The road to success was a rocky one for Katy, who was signed and then dropped by two major record labels. But she persevered. To learn more of the Katy Perry story, tune in to the "E! Entertainment Special Katy Perry," premiering Dec. 29 at 10 p.m. on E!
