Mellowhype - Blackenedwhite (7/12/11)
L.A. collective Odd Future (OFWGKTA) has many subgroups within their camp, notably Tyler the Creator and Frank Ocean, but Mellowhype (Hodgy Beats and Left Brain) are showing that they can stand on their own with their latest album, Blackenedwhite. Opposite of the group's dark, edgy content, Hodgy, the rapping-half of the twosome, comes off as a care-free stoner who's enthralled with women and religion (yes, really) while Left Brain provides production that can rival those of today's hip hop elite. Although most aren't too familiar with the duo within the steadily ascending teenage hip hop crew, an album like this can put them on the radar.
