Singer Mayer Hawthorne is proving that the retro soul tag is not a trend with his first major label debut, How Do You Do. The Los Angeles-based crooner (by way of Ann Arbor, Michigan) drew much of his inspiration from such singers as Smokey Robinson, Isaac Hayes and Michael McDonald to name a few and his unique style in combination with those influences definitely shines throughout the record.
