Watch: Britney Spears Tribute Planned for VMAs

By
MTV

In her glory days, Britney Spears was Queen Bee of the MTV Video Music Awards. Her storied past includes performing a memorable classroom themed number in collaboration with N*SYNC in 1999, followed a year later by a nearly-nude costume, and then parading a snake around her neck in 2001. Equally as memorable was her unenergized routine to Gimme More in 2007.

The pop princess teamed with host Russell Brand for promos in 2008 and 2009, but did not sing and dance. Britney will triumphantly return to the show this year as MTV honors her in a special tribute. She has won four Moonmen to date, including Video of the Year for Piece of Me in 2008.

No further details of Britney's participation are available at this time. The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live on MTV on August 28. Britney is currently embarked on her Femme Fatale tour to promote her latest album, boasting such singles as I Wanna Go, Hold It Against Me, and Till the World Ends.
