Jakob Dylan on The Wallflowers' Comeback

After their Live on Letterman concert earlier this month, Jakob Dylan and Greg Richling of The Wallflowers talked backstage about the band's comeback and surprise collaboration.

The Wallflowers took a break in 2007 after 18 years together and didn't release another album until this month. Jakob called it a "needed hiatus that lasted longer than we imagined."

In fact, Jakob revealed that the rock band started talking about getting back together two years ago, but scheduling difficulties set them back awhile.

The wait seems well worth it, as their latest project features a few surprises -- most notably a collaboration with Mick Jones of The Clash.

Jakob explained that he went to see Mick perform with Big Audio Dynamite in Los Angeles and walked away from the concert inspired by what he thought was the best show he'd seen in 20 years.

Mick's influence showed up so prominently in their single Reboot the Mission that the band invited Mick to feature on the track. Fortunately he accepted.

"I really don't know what more approval anyone would need to hear," said Jakob. "[Mick] digs it so..."

The Wallflowers' relationship with David Letterman extends all the way back to the comedian's first network talk show, Late Night with David Letterman, in 1992.

"Every experience has been memorable," said Jakob, who was impressed by how many times they've appeared on the show.
