Entertainment Tonight's storied theme song was recently dissected in the studio of music producer will.i.am, who churned out a new version of a tune synonymous with entertainment. With the revamped theme released on Thursday, ETonline gives you more behind-the-scenes from the process that went in to creating the fresh theme.
As the Black Eyed Peas member revealed in the studio, he had to mold the theme song to current pop culture, and began that process by slowing it down from around 150 beats per minute (BPM) to 130 BPM, the tempo for most current electronic dance songs.
"The tempo's up-tempo...The original's at 150 (BPM), which is real fast, so...you want to round it off to the nearest tenth--or the nearest pop culture" he revealed. "So, let's take it to 130 (BPM) 'cause that's where dance and stability is right now."
Preserving the classic riff but giving it a modern flare was will.i.am's main goal. The task of revising ET's historic theme may have been daunting for any producer, but the Grammy-winning producer/rapper said he wanted make his own mark on the song.
"I don't want to just do something that has that much attention just to do it without adding to it," he said.
