George Michael Airlifted With Injuries After Crash

British singer George Michael was airlifted to the hospital after being injured in a car crash Thursday night near London.

A statement released by the 49-year-old singer's publicist confirmed the accident and said Michael only suffered "superficial cuts and bruises." The publicist added that Michael was a passenger in a Range Rover and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

An ambulance spokesman told the BBC that Michael had sustained a head injury and, following initial treatment on the scene, was flown to a hospital for further care.

The former Wham! star has been involved in numerous car-related incidents in recent years. He was imprisoned for two months in 2010 after crashing his Range Rover into a photo shop in north London, then pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of drugs and possessing marijuana. He also received an earlier two-year driving ban for a separate drug-related incident.
