Benny Benassi on Surprising Song Collaboration
DJ Benny Benassi and John Legend shocked the music world with their recent collaboration on the single Dance the Pain Away, and Benassi spoke exclusively to ET about the origin of the pairing.
Benassi (a legend in electronic dance music) explained that the idea of working with Legend came about during a visit that the R&B star made to Italy.
"Johnny came to Italy for a wedding and we met in Milan and talked about the song and the experience of [possibly] working together," Benassi told us at the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas.
With their initial meeting lasting for only a moment and their recording process being done by swapping files on the computer, Benassi didn't actually get to know Legend until they both showed up on the set of the music video.
While both artists enjoyed the experience of working together, Legend isn't likely to leave his soulful roots any time soon.
"[Legend] said, 'I love this song with Benny, but I'm an R&B artist and I want to stay in my world,'" said Benassi.
