Katy Perry on Her Love Life

Katy Perry's forthcoming album, Prism, is filled with love songs, which prompted ET to ask her about her current love life.

Perry, who divorced comedian Russell Brand after a year of marriage, recently went public with her singer boyfriend John Mayer, with whom she's had an on-and-off relationship for the past year.

The "Roar" singer shared her views on love with ET, particularly what she believes is necessary for romantic love to flourish.

"What I need is self-love first and foremost, and I think everything follows in such a fantastic way after you have that love for yourself," the 28-year-old songstress said.

While she recently admitted in an interview that she was distraught after her divorce from Brand, she revealed that she's recently undergone a transitional period in her life full of growth and wisdom.

"I think maybe I did go through a little bit of a...late-20s transition," Perry said.

Prism, which Perry says was named to symbolize her "letting the light in," is in stores October 22.
