"I'd like to work on another Broadway musical. I'd like to work on more music. I love TV; I'd love to work on a scripted TV show with some friends of mine," Lauper said Friday at a rehearsal for her third-annual Home for the Holidays benefit concert. "I'd like to see more of my kid and my husband—be home a little more."

In addition to her personal career achievements, Lauper has also been a staunch supporter of LGBT rights, which she has incorporated into her career. Lauper's True Colors Fund holds the Home for the Holidays concert to raise funds and awareness for LGBT homelessness.

"It's pretty exciting what's going on, all the people that have volunteered their time to come here," Lauper said of the event.

For this year's concert, held at New York City's historic Beacon Theatre, Lauper was joined on stage by a parade of stars, including Pink, Josh Groban, Susan Sarandon, and Nelly Furtado, with whom she sang a duet of "Home for the Holidays."

With the benefit's cause in mind, Lauper talked about the importance of the holidays.

"The holiday season is great for people to come back home, get together again," she said, then adding some frank humor. "Of course, after a couple of days or a week probably, you just feel like, 'OK, now I know why I moved to a different state!' you know?"
