5 Seconds of Summer Remember Their Big Break

Published

While Australian boy band 5 Seconds of Summer is on its way to becoming one of the biggest new bands in the world, it wasn't long ago that the quartet was struggling to get their name out there. The teenage pop stars dished to ET Canada about their big break.

Drummer Ashton Irwin told ET Canada: "[5SOS] were sort of doing our own thing in Australia for a while. And we were touring around and we did national tours and stuff. And we made it over to New Zealand and that's about as far as we got." Bassist Calum Hood added, "[One Direction's Louis Tomlinson] contacted us and he was like 'We should tour' and we were like 'Oh my, that's a big step!'"

5SOS, also featuring vocalist Luke Hemmings and guitarist Michael Clifford, released their first EP, She Looks So Perfect, on iTunes April 1. The project has already made them No. 1 in several countries, including Canada, Australia and the U.K.
