Fans went wild after a 1D member posted a heartfelt tweet to his band mates.

Four years ago on Wednesday, July 23, was the birth of one of the world's hottest bands, One Direction. This entire week has just been a 1D fan fest, with thousands of the band's admirers tweeting obsessively about the anniversary.

On Wednesday morning, Niall Horan broke the internet when he tweeted a sweet, heartfelt thanks to his good-looking cohorts.

"Thank you lads, we've had a great time so far, you are family to me now , not just band mates! Love you."

The reaction was swift and immediate, with fans across the globe freaking out even harder.

After than, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson all tweeted their congrats to each other, any hope that 1D Twitter fans had of talking about anything else vanished.

Over the last four years, the boy band has released three albums – Up All night, Take Me Home and Midnight Memories-- all of which debuted at No. 1. The group also won two MTV Video Music Awards and were named 2012's Top New Artist by Billboard.
