At approximately 6:49 p.m., Taylor tweeted: "All systems go! #WelcomeToNewYork."

And indeed, all systems were go as "Welcome To New York" quickly became Taylor's No. 1 single in under two hours.

Taylor released a statement explaining her inspiration for the song, and what role the Big Apple plays in her life and her creative process.

"I started the album with 'Welcome To New York' because New York has been an important landscape and location for the story of my life in the last couple of years," Taylor explained. "It's like an electric city, and I approached moving there with such wide-eyed optimism. I saw New York as a place of endless potential and possibilities and you can hear that reflected in this music and in this song."
