Don't mess with Bette Midler. She's full of zingers!

After calling Ariana Grande's sexy image "ridiculous" and "silly" to The Telegraph, the 21-year-old pop star reacted with a quip of her own via Twitter Tuesday, which then led to Midler's recent tweet.

"Bette was always a feminist who stood for women being able to do whatever the F they wanted without judgement!" Grande wrote, including an old photo of Midler wearing a bikini. "Not sure where that Bette went but I want that sexy mermaid back!!! always a fan no matter what my love."

The 68-year-old diva responded to this message on Wednesday by tweeting: "About my screed on @ArianaGrande , all I can say is, 'Spoken like a reformed old wh**e! She does have a beautiful voice, on a couch or off.'"

The quotes that set off this semi-feud were about the sexy persona Grande gives off on stage and in her videos. Midler isn't a fan. "It's always surprising to see someone like Ariana Grande with that silly high voice, a very wholesome voice, slithering around on a couch looking so ridiculous," she told The Telegraph. "I mean, it's silly beyond belief and I don't know who's telling her to do it."

Midler quipped of the pop stars today, "I mean, apparently people really like to pretend they're having sex. They really like to slap each other's butts."
