In 2013, the Jonas Brothers unexpectedly broke up just before the release of a new album and the start of a world tour. Despite the split, the brothers are now on good terms, according to Kevin Jonas.
In an interview with HuffPost Live on Tuesday, the 27-year-old musician explained that breaking up allowed him and his brothers to save their relationship. The conversation begins around the 11-minute mark in the video below.
"I think that’s why we’re close now, because we’re not in the band," Kevin said. "We chose to be a family, not a band."
Kevin also explained what caused the tension within their band in the first place.
"At the end there, the friction was too much," the 27-year-old musician revealed. "We just really needed to break away and kind of do our own things for some time."
Comedian Gilbert Gottfried, who appeared alongside Jonas on Celebrity Apprentice this season, sat in on the HuffPost interview, and he urged Kevin to fess up to the real reason behind the implosion of the Jonas Brothers.
"Now tell us how the drugs tore you apart," the acerbic comedian joked.
"That's the story we haven't told yet," Jonas said, playing along. "So much drugs! So many."
Since breaking up, Kevin's brother, Nick Jonas, has been working hard to shed his family-friendly image. He's been getting ripped – and showing off his impressive progress – while he stars on DirecTV’s Kingdom. Check out the video below for a look at Nick's formidable physique.
