Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins
and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas (pictured the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes) weren’t ‘2 proud 2 beg’ when they launched a Kickstarter campaign to produce their new and final album as TLC. And while they knew fans would likely rally behind them, they couldn’t have predicted the immediate and robust response.

Not only did fans pledge over $138,000, just shy of the $150,000 goal, in one day but even Katy Perry offered her support. The singer, who is performing at the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show, pledged $5,000.

Watkins was quick to thank the pop star for her donation. “A BIG Special THANK YOU,” she wrote on Twitter.

Perhaps it was Perry’s support or the fandom surrounding TLC, who has not released an album in 13 years, but the campaign exceeded its goal within 48 hours. Currently, fans have pledged over $162,000.

According to Watkins, the campaign is the “most funded pop project in Kickstarter history.”

And fans who donated are in for some good rewards. Among the top gifts to the highest pledges: TLC scrapbooks, voicemails recorded by the group, a TLC onesie, and a chance to hang with T-Boz or Chilli at a slumber party.

The launch of the campaign coincided with the announcement of the group’s new tour, The Main Event, with New Kids on the Block and Nelly. The three acts will hit the road starting May 1 with tickets going on sale Jan. 31.
