How did this A-list actor get caught up with these two pop stars?

On Monday, Tom Hanks was spotted shooting a music video in snowy New York City for "Call Me Maybe" singer Carly Rae Jepsen. While Hanks' appearance on set was somewhat surprising, it wasn't so much of a shock that Jepsen asked her pal Justin Bieber to also star in the video.

The trio were seen in NYC's Soho neighborhood enthusiastically dancing down the streets to Jepsen's song "I Really Like You." Though it may seem random for the 58-year-old actor to guest star in the 29-year-old pop star's video, Hanks is actually good friends with Bieber and Jepsen's manager Scooter Braun. He even attended his wedding this past summer.

Bieber tweeted his excitement after the shoot, writing: "@carlyraejepsen @scooterbraun today was a great day. I need some rest :) #IReallyLikeYou video is gonna be amazing."

Vine star King Bach was also on set and tweeted a photo with the pop star and Hanks, who just so happened to be wearing pajamas. "I am the captain now," he tweeted, quoting Hanks' film Captain Phillips.
