Kendrick Lamar has eight new reasons not to "be humble." The DAMN. rapper cleaned up the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards nominations on Wednesday, which were announced via Instagram Live with a slew of the social network's influences. K-Dot's video for "HUMBLE.," his new album's debut single, landed nominations for "Video of the Year," "Best Hip-Hop," "Best Cinematography," "Best Direction," "Best Art Direction," "Best Visual Effects" and "Best Choreography." Additionally, Lamar was nominated for "Artist of the Year."
Rounding out the top three after Lamar are Katy Perry and The Weeknd, who both notched five nods of their own. And there will be some stiff competition at this year's show, as Lamar and The Weeknd will be battling it out with Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, Lorde and Ed Sheeran for Artist of the Year.
Rounding out the top three after Lamar are Katy Perry and The Weeknd, who both notched five nods of their own. There'll be some stiff competition at this year's show, especially given that after this year's MTV TV and Movie Awards, the network is continued to lead the way in doing away with gendered nominations, meaning Lamar, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, Lorde, The Weeknd and Ed Sheeran will all be battling it out for Artist of the Year.
The 2017 VMAs will air live from The Forum in Inglewood, California, on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.
