David Arquette gets brutally honest with Oprah Winfrey about his journey into sobriety and his separation from Courteney Cox after 11 years of marriage.
The 'Scream' actor said that this is the first time he's been sober in 30 years, disclosing that he started seriously drinking at age 12, and that he's really working on "figuring out" his own path. He told Oprah that he wants people to know that you can come back from addiction.
David goes into detail about the struggles with his relationship with Courteney, saying that even when they were dating, his serious drug use at the time scared her. He also got into heavy drinking and cigar smoking during their marriage and he said Courteney once told him, "I'm not attracted to you right now." He said of his marriage, "Part of my dynamic with Courteney is I do wanna fix things."
Right before the actress told her husband that she wanted to separate she got him a motorcycle for their 11 year anniversary in June 2010. David said his wife told him, "I don't want to be your mother anymore." He told Oprah when Courteney finally said she wanted to cool things off he "felt abandoned" and that she broke the deal. He also admitted that he thought she was having an affair at the time but now knows that was not the case.
However, David said he's in a better place now, calling Courteney his "best friend" and telling Oprah that he loves her with all his heart. He added that they're "working on themselves right now." As for whether he thinks he can reconcile with Courteney, he answered, "I don't know if we'll come back together. ... I'd love for it to work out."
