When Pia Toscano got the heave-ho from “American Idol” during its Thursday night shocker, the dramatic decision immediately sparked frantic support from the famous, including two Academy Award winners and former idols who have suffered similar fates.

Movie star Tom Hanks tweeted, "Don’t have an IDOL habit, but how could the USA vote Pia off?" The Oscar winning 'Forrest Gump' actor added, "I may be done for the season! HANX"

Ellen DeGeneres wore her disappointment on her sleeve, tweeting, "Are you watching Idol? I am shocked and so sad."

Twitter king Ashton Kutcher tapped out his disbelief, saying, "Who are the people who vote on American Idol? That’s just crazy! That Pia girl is dope!"

Pia’s untimely ouster even prompted a "Jersey Shore" mainstay to serve up words of support. Snooki took to the twitterverse with a threatening promise, stating, "Pia should have won the whole thing! I’m not watchin Idol anuymore (sic)."

And, you can file the following star reactions under "Been There, Done That." "American Idol" graduate Jennifer Hudson earned public sympathy when she was voted off in season three, only to go on and win an Oscar for her work in the movie musical 'Dreamgirls.' Hudson blasted Thursday, "I can not believe they just eliminated pia ! ReAlly..???" Hudson later tweeted, "Long as she walked away with that voice she will be alright !! Just hate to see talent like that go!" While "Idol" alum Chris Daughtry, whose season five elimination sparked similar outrage, didn’t mince words: "What the crap? I thought Pia was THE best singer on the show this year!"

The final eight face off on FOX next Wednesday.
