It turns out Daniel Radcliffe
isn't as squeaky clean as the 'Harry Potter
' star is often portrayed. In the new issue of British GQ
admits to having an alcohol problem, which hit its peak around the age of 18 while he was filming 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,' the sixth movie in the record-breaking 'Harry Potter
"I think complacency probably crept in a little bit on that film," he says. “I became so reliant on [alcohol] to enjoy stuff."
Looking back at those wild times, he acknowledges that he was lucky the media had not latched on to the story, tainting his credibility
as an actor, à la Lindsay Lohan
. "I really got away with that," he reflects, "because there were many instances when a shot like that could have been taken."
He goes on to reveal a particular part of fame that bothers him.
"... I can't stand the thought of people I don’t know all over the internet making moral judgments against me. That really p***es me off when people feel they can do that," the normally genial Radcliffe
Now, having abstained from alcohol since August of last year, he reveals that he is much happier.
"I'm actually enjoying the fact that I can have a relationship with my girlfriend where I'm really pleasant and I'm not f***ing up totally all the time," he says.
And at the age of 21, it seems Radcliffe is content with the fact that living the "celebrity life" is not for him.
"There's no shame in enjoying a quiet life. And that's been the realization of the past few years for me," he reflects.
"As much as I would love to be a person that goes to parties and has a couple of drinks and has a nice time, that doesn't work for me. I'd just rather sit at home and read, or go out to dinner with someone, or talk to someone I love, or talk to somebody that makes me laugh."
