Actress Daryl Hannah is explaining her arrest in front of the White House and sharing why she's so passionate about her latest environmental cause.
Hannah told Canada's CTV network she is not alone in taking a stand against a planned oil pipeline from Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast. "There have been hundreds of people arrested over the last week and a half, and more to come in the next few days."
The star of Splash and the Kill Bill series was arrested Tuesday in front of the White House along with other environmental activists trying to stop the pipeline. She was later released from custody after paying a fine.
"I want to add my body and my voice to the thousands of others who are laying themselves on the line and saying, 'No, we do not want to be party to this incredibly destructive path,'" Hannah told CTV's Canada AM. "We're becoming more dependent on fossil fuels and now we're becoming dependent on the most dirty of the fossil fuels, which is the tarsands fuel," she added.
Hannah said the protesters are calling for clean energy investments and urging President Barack Obama not to bow to oil lobbyists who favor the pipeline project.
