Suspect Surrenders in Killing of Charice's Father

A man has surrendered in the Philippines and admitted responsibility for the stabbing death of Glee star Charice Pempengco's father.

Angel Capili Jr. turned himself in to authorities Thursday in his village south of Manila, police confirmed to the Associated Press. Police said Charice's estranged 40-year-old father, construction worker Ricky Pempengco, was stabbed with an ice pick by a drunken man on Monday.

The suspect told reporters in Manila he was conscience-stricken and prepared to face the consequences. "I had really planned to surrender because what I did was wrong," Capili told reporters. "I am seeking forgiveness from the family left behind by Mr. Pempengco. ... I am prepared to suffer whatever is the judgment."

Capili did not respond when reporters asked why he stabbed the victim, but he reportedly told authorities he had been assaulted by Pempengco.

Dubbed by Oprah as the "most talented girl in the world," nineteen-year-old Charice Pempengco is famous in Asia and had a recurring role on the FOX hit Glee. The star told a news conference after hearing the news that she could not forgive Capili because he didn't appear to be truly sorry for what happened. "He should not defend himself. He cannot bring back my dad," she said.
