Matthew McConaughey is making headlines with his engagement announcement to girlfriend Camila Alves, and we were with the star when he was just 23!

Following his memorable turn in Dazed and Confused, Matthew was cast as a ballplayer in Disney's Angels in the Outfield in 1993, and the Texas native was more than happy to get paid to play ball.

"It's the American dream, isn't it?" he told ET. "When they said they were going to fly me out to play ball for 10 weeks, I said, 'And I'm getting paid for it. How 'bout that? Get to be a kid again, play ball for 10 weeks out here at the Oakland Coliseum?' It's pretty tough to beat."
