The couple married in 2004 and in November 2007 Kimberly gave birth to twins, Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace. The Quaid's made headlines shortly thereafter when medical personnel at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles gave the newborn twins a massive overdose of a blood thinner that nearly killed them. The couple settled with Cedars-Sinai in 2008 for a reported $750,000 after the hospital took responsibility for the overdose.

It was the third marriage for Quaid, who was married to Meg Ryan from 1991 to 2001, and actress P.J. Soles from to 1978 to 1983.
