Hugh Grant is opening up about fatherhood and for the first time publicly disclosed the name of his new baby girl, Tabitha!
The 51-year-old Bridget Jones's Diary star -- who in the past had said the maximum amount of time he could be around babies was "about four minutes" -- now tells Britain's The Guardian that having a child is "fantastic."
Grant adds that he even surprised himself with the level of excitement about being a father. "Lots of people warned me about that -- they said never let anyone know, but the baby period is not that exciting. But I am excited, actually. I thought, well, I'll bluff through -- but very little bluffing has been required."
The star gushed over his daughter and revealed that she has enhanced his life. "I like my daughter very much. Fantastic. Has she changed my life? I'm not sure. Not yet. Not massively, no. But I'm absolutely thrilled to have had her, I really am. And I feel a better person."
The actor confesses that it didn't take long before he assumed the role of proud papa. "There probably is some truth that one of our main functions on the planet is to reproduce, because it feels like more of an achievement than it should do -- which is nonsense, really. But yesterday I took my daughter to see my father, who's in hospital, and all the nurses were cooing over her. And I felt, well, pride."
Grant is no longer with Tabitha's mother, Chinese actress Tinglan Hong, who remains very involved in the child's life.
