Fire Damages Set at Tyler Perry Studios

Investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire last night at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta that damaged the exterior facade of a simulated streetscape.

A spokesman for the Atlanta Fire Department told ET the blaze was quickly brought under control after breaking out shortly before 9 p.m. on Tuesday. No injuries were reported.

On Wednesday, the studio issued a statement on the fire. "Atlanta firefighters responded immediately to a fire which damaged the backlot façade of one of the buildings at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. We are grateful that there were no injuries, and that 99 percent of the damage is limited to the backlot facade. Mr. Perry wishes to express his heartfelt thanks to the Atlanta fire department for their professionalism in their quick response and limiting the damage."

It is the same studio where many of the Madea movies have been filmed. According the studio's website, there are five soundstages as well as a 400-seat theater on the 200,000-square-foot lot.
