Musician and gun rights advocate Ted Nugent is appearing on CBS This Morning on Friday, opening up about the aftermath of his controversial rant against President Barack Obama.

As a Mitt Romney supporter, Nugent had a discussion with members of the politician's campaign concerning the remarks.

"[Mitt Romney's campaign] expressed support," said Nugent, who revealed that he hasn't spoken directly to Mitt or his wife Ann about the inflammatory speech. Still, Nugent went on to disclose that he feels the campaign wants him to "stay on course," taking advantage of his constitutional right to freedom of speech.

"I have to say what I say the way I say it," said Nugent.

During the National Rifle Association's annual conference in St. Louis on April 14, Nugent proclaimed, "If you want more of those kinds of evil anti-American people in the Supreme Court, then don't get involved and let Obama take office again ... because I'll tell you this right now: If Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year."

The comments reportedly prompted an interview from the Secret Service, which yielded no further action.
