After announcing her separation last year, today Debra Messing has filed for divorce from estranged husband Daniel Zelman, according to court documents obtained by ET.

The filings cite "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split. The papers also request that Messing be granted joint custody of their eight-year-old son, Roman, as well as spousal support.

After their split last year, the estranged couple reportedly continued living together for the sake of their son. The two met in 1990 while students at New York University. They married in 2000.
