Sorry ladies, but you won't be seeing David Beckham compete in next month's Olympics -- the soccer star failed to make the cut for the British Olympic soccer team.
There were only three spots available for players over the age of 23 to compete on the team, and while Beckham, 37, made manager Stuart Pearce's shortlist of 35, he wasn't selected for the final 18-man squad.

"Everyone knows how much playing for my country has always meant to me, so I would have been honored to have been part of this unique Team GB squad," Beckham admits to the Associated Press. "Naturally I am very disappointed, but there will be no bigger supporter of the team than me. And like everyone, I will be hoping they can win the gold."

But though Beckham seems to be taking the news in stride, many people were shocked at his omission from the team -- the international soccer star was instrumental in lobbying for the country's rights to host the Olympic games in the 2005 vote. He also carried the Olympic Torch when it arrived in England last month.
