"I'm getting this as a belated birthday gift," said Borgnine, with his wife, Tova, by his side. "This is really something. It's your peers. They already honored me once with an Oscar. Now they're really honoring me."
Borgnine credited his spouse for keeping him youthful as he advanced in age. Tova, the actor's fifth wife, admitted to playing a major part, saying that "having romance" had preserved their youth.
Before scooting off to find his seat for the SAG Awards, Borgnine emphatically expressed his appreciation for the attention brought to his life's work.
"Thank you, and God love you all," said Borgnine, who departed by blowing a good-bye kiss.
