High-profile splits, while humiliating for both parties, brings an added dimension of stress to their little ones caught in the middle. From Britney Spears and Kevin Federline's young sons to Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger's daughter Ireland, star kids tend to bear the brunt of the tension as their famous parents part ways.

Back in 2006, Britney Spears and Kevin Federline announced the end of their two-year marriage with Spears asking for full custody of their boys, Sean Preston and Jayden James. What followed was a heated custody battle for the kids with Federline challenging his former wife's ability to be an effective mother. Britney lost custody of her sons briefly in 2008 after Spears refused to return the children at the end of a court-monitored visit. Spears and Federline have apparently buried the hatchet, and presently share custody of their boys in an amicable manner.

Alec Baldwin is now happily married to second wife, Hilaria Thomas, but back in 2001 the 45-year-old actor and his former flame Kim Basinger ended their hot-and-heavy romance on bad terms while their daughter Ireland was just 6. For many years of her childhood, she was caught in the middle of a bitter and nasty custody battle with both parents famously hurling allegations against the other. Perhaps the most well-known example of their heated exchanges remains Alec's now-infamous voicemail leaked to the press. At present, Alec says he and Kim are on much better terms and speak from time to time, describing their relationship as cordial.
