Team USA went into the women's beach volleyball finals with a guarantee of being awarded gold and silver. The top two seeds on the sand were the American teams entered in the competition—Misty May-Treanor/ Kerri Walsh Jennings and Jennifer Kessy/ April Ross.

For the third straight Olympics, the heavily favored May-Treanor and Walsh Jennings have landed atop the podium, winning two sets to zero. It was well worth their effort to come out of retirement for one last appearance together.

It was no relaxing day at the beach for the bikini-clad athletes. The Team USA teammates showed no mercy, each vying for the sport's ultimate title. Lucky for May-Treanor and Walsh Jennings, they don't know what defeat feels like on the Olympic stage. London 2012 is their third appearance at the Games, never losing a match in their journey for gold. In their entire Olympic career, the dynamic duo has impressively dropped only one set, which was to Stefanie Schwaiger and Doris Schwaiger in a preliminary round in London.

May-Treanor paraded around Horse Guards Parade to celebrate her win with family and fans.
